It’s hard for your child to learn if he or she can’t see the whiteboard or read a textbook. Early detection of vision problems is the key to ensuring your child’s vision can be corrected as soon as possible.
Healthy eyes and good vision are vital to your child’s success. Warman Eye Care is also proud to offer direct billing, making it easy for you to get reimbursed for your child’s pediatric eye exam.
Since children aren’t always able to communicate like adults do, we use different methods to determine how healthy your child’s eyes are, and whether or not they might require corrective lenses.
Going for a checkup can also be nerve-wracking, especially for younger kids. So while we are checking your child’s eye coordination, acuity, eye health and prescription we do so in a way that keeps them at ease, happy and engaged.
The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends that children undergo their first eye exam at six months old, though if you have any concerns you should take your child in sooner. Children should then have additional eye exams when they turn three, as well as when they are five or six. School aged children should be checked out annually, though your optometrist may recommend they come in more frequently if they have vision problems.
If you are concerned about the cost, don’t be. The Government of Saskatchewan covers the cost of annual eye exams for all children under 18.
There is no reason to delay! Request an appointment for your child’s pediatric eye exam today!
Vision is a complex process involving both your eyes and your brain. Sometimes these two systems don’t work together as smoothly as they should, which leads to problems like amblyopia (lazy eye). Concerns such as this can affect more than your child’s vision and can be the cause of behavioural issues, learning problems and social struggles.
Vision therapy can help correct these issues by training your child’s eyes and brain to work together to process what the eye is seeing and appropriately interpret that data. Vision therapy does this using a series of exercises that can improve your child’s vision for both inside and outside the classroom.
Sometimes a child’s vision problems require a specialist or surgery to correct. That is why at Warman Eye Care we work closely with a variety of top pediatric specialists.
Early intervention is vital, so if you have any concerns about your child’s eyes or vision call and request a pediatric eye exam today!
